Successful start of Proton-M with AsiaSat-5 spacecraft has been accomplished on August 11, 2009 at 23:47 (Moscow time) from the Baykonur space launch site.AsiaSat-5 is intended for communication services in С and Ku ranges for the South-East Asia. The spacecraft is produced by Space Systems Loral (USA). Weight - 3.7 t, operation life is 15 years.
The contract for launch with Proton-M was made by Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holding Ltd. (Hong Kong, PRC) and International Launch Services Inc. (ILS). ILS is authorized for marketing of Proton on the international market. The owner of control share is in ILS is the State Space Scientific Research Centre named after Khrunichev, designer and manufacturer of Proton.
