来源: KommersantRosaviation (the Federal Air Transport Agency) has published the results of operation of the Russian airlines in May. In total, 3.66 mln passengers have been transported in May, a 16,3% decrease y-o-y. The fall reached 20.5% in April. Cargo transportation is also improving: overall fall in the sector reached 15.8% (to 57,000 t) in May, against the 17.2% in April. Airlines have transported 14.1 mln passengers over January-May, 19.4% less y-o-y.
The list of the five major airlines that transport over 56% of all the passengers remained the same over the first five months of 2009: Aeroflot is at the top (a fall of 12.4%) followed by S7 (z fall of 35.7%), Transaero (a fall of 8.5%), UTair (a fall of 7.7%) and GTK Rossiya (a fall of 18.5%). Transaero did a considerable jump in May, taking the second position (in terms of volume) and exceeding S7 by 73,000 passengers. Besides, UTair showed a 6.5% growth y-o-y, with a passenger flow of 282,200 passengers.
According to the analysts, growth of Transaero’s passenger flow is due to arrival of new aircraft and new markets, the Far East in the first place. Representatives of the company also emphasize that Transaero also became the leader in this region also due to its participation in the state program for subsidizing tickets for the Far East passengers aged 23 and less or 60 and more.
