Moscow, 11 June (www.RussianAvia.net) - Russia's new twin-engine regional airliner Superjet SSJ 100 will have its world debut at the 48th edition of the prestigious international Paris Air Show, as Le Bourget 2009 celebrates its centenary from the 15th to 21st June.
SSJ100 is to be one of the show’s star attractions this year, according to the organisers. Le Bourget, on its part, will be the first chance for industry players, potential buyers, aviation enthusiasts, and the international and specialist media to get a glimpse of the first plane made in Russia in two decades.
The Superjet 100 project is a family of regional passenger aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in cooperation with American and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace, and Honeywell.
The first plane of the family is currently undergoing certification, as it has already completed 40 flights, and more than 100 flight hours. It should be fully certified during the third quarter of 2009.
Sukhoi plans to manufacture at least 700 Superjet 100s, and intends to sell 35% of them to North America, 25% to Europe, 10% to Latin America, and 7% to Russia and China. The first Superjet 100 airliner will be delivered to Russia's flagship carrier Aeroflot in December.
The company has said in the past that it has about 100 solid orders for the Superjet 100, and that it expects to sign several new deals during the Le Bourget and MAKS air shows this year.
In spite of the general economic downturn, the International Paris Air Show – Le Bourget was fully booked four months in advance. The number of exhibitors, from 48 countries, will top the 2,000 mark in 2009, setting a new record. Australia, Lithuania, Libya, Mexico and Tunisia will be present at the show for the first time.
For this hundredth anniversary, the Patrouille de France aerobatics display team returns to Le Bourget along with some thirty vintage aircraft from 1909 to 1960.
