The Novosibirsk Aviation Production Enterprise of Chkalov (NAPO) and the Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Science have signed a Program of joint development and implementation of advanced material processing and safety coating technologies. The Program includes five points; detailed technical requirements for each of them are developed at NAPO to be further transferred to the Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Science. Each point of the Program includes development and certification of technologies, creation of industrial equipment and testing; results are expected as early as 2010-2011.The Program is expected to help implement Russian technologies, reduce the assembly cycle and create better production culture and conditions. Technical re-equipment, reconstruction and upgrade are currently underway at NAPO, with implementation of new IT and highly efficient mills. This is a step towards new quality of modern aviation equipment production.
NAPO of Chkalov was founded in 1931 and is one of the largest Russian enterprises for aviation equipment production. Since 2002 NAPO has been part of Sukhoi Holding. Over 29,000 aircraft have been produced at NAPO; today it produces the newest Su-34 fighters, repairs and upgrades Su-24М, produces sections of the regional passenger aircraft Sukhoi SuperJet 100 and participates in Sukhoi’s program for production of fifth generation fighter.
