S7 Airlines, one of the largest Russian domestic carriers (as of 2008), announces its readiness to join oneworld, the international aviation alliance, leader in passenger servicing.S7 Airlines has been unanimously chosen as a candidate for joining the alliance by all its 10 members, who comprise leaders of the world civil aviation. S7 Airlines will be a full member of oneworld with an opportunity to offer the whole range of the most advanced services, profitable tariffs and other oneworld offers during 2010.
As the first step of the procedure, route network of S7 Airlines will start selling a special Global Explorer round-the-world fare from June 1, 2009, that is offered to the passengers by members of oneworld and a few other airlines in the world.
British Airways, as an airline that recommended S7 Airlines to join oneworld, will support it during the implementation of a special program that lasts for about 18 months.
Membership of S7 Airlines in oneworld will help to unite one of the widest world route networks that cover Russia and CIS with a global network and airlines based on all continents.
S7 Airlines makes flights to 72 destinations, with 38 destinations inside Russia. Route network of S7 will add 55 new cities (36 Russian cities) and 8 new countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) to the global oneworld route network which will also increase almost up to 750 directions in 150 countries and will be serviced with a fleet of 2,300 aircraft flying to 8,500 daily destinations and transporting over 330 mln passengers yearly.
S7 Airlines is based in Domodedovo international airport where a few other members of oneworld are serviced: American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines and Royal Jordanian. International destinations of S7 Airlines include hubs of oneworld in Madrid and Bangkok. In Russia, members of oneworld also fly to Sheremetyevo (Moscow), Pulkovo (Saint-Petersburg) and Koltsovo (Yekaterinburg).
Exact date of joining oneworld will be known in 2010, after all the preparatory procedures are over.

According to Vladimir Objedkov, General Director of S7 Airlines, “We’re happy to become a member of oneworld – the leader in passenger servicing. Joining the alliance will be one of the most important steps in the history of S7 and will allow our passengers enjoy a truly global network supported by famous airlines. Participants of S7 Priority, a program for frequent fliers, will have more opportunities to accumulate miles and use them for new additional services. It will also improve our financial position by increasing the passenger flow of other members of the alliance who will be able to use the routes of our wide network. Besides, membership in oneworld will allow us decrease the costs of the airline giving us access to the general resources of the alliance”.
