SOLVER: building lean production with Kazan Helicopter Plant, SOLVER

Cooperation of Solver, a Russian leader in engineering and consulting, and Kazan Helicopter Plant continues in the frame of a new project aimed at improving efficiency in production of Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters.
Mi-8/Mi-17 family produced at Kazan Helicopter Plant is known worldwide and chosen by 80 countries. To sustain and increase its competitiveness, Kazan Helicopter Plant is renewing its model range, and modernizing and improving its production and technology base.
In its earlier projects with Kazan Helicopter Plant, Solver has implemented modern processing centers increasing the efficiency of producing a selection of spare parts (150+ units). As a result, Kazan Helicopter Plant and Solver initiated an experimental project aiming to develop a technical solution to increase the efficiency of producing Nozzle - an important spare part used in Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters to attach the rotor blades.
In traditional technology, production of Nozzle required 48 units of equipment, 25 hours of work per unit and 84 operations. Now, Solver has offered a hi-tech solution - Kitamura Mycenter HX50 processing centers - and developed the necessary jigging. Modeling of processing operations has shown that implementation of new technology and equipment with the new jigging dramatically increases the efficiency of Nozzle production - with only 3 machine tools, 5 hours of processing and 8 operations. High efficiency of the equipment will also provide high quality of spare parts - to increase the competitiveness of helicopters produced in Kazan.
Solver's solution for this project has resulted in an experimental prototype of automatic spare part production system - that, given the successful cooperation of Solver and Kazan Helicopter Plant, opens prospects for creating an operational prototype and building real lean production.
