Airbus and VSMPO-AVISMA have signed MoU for strategic partnership in production and supplies of added value products, joint projects and, especially, the Vertical Integration Project. The strategic agreement is to further improve the long-term cooperation of Airbus and VSMPO-AVISMA and to confirm VSMPO-AVISMA's position in the supply chain of EADS/Airbus.

In the MoU, Airbus and VSMPO-AVISMA are confirming their intentions to expand the supplies of titanium raw, forgings and added value products. The MoU includes different areas of strategic partnership such as development of new alloys for individual use by EADS/Airbus or the possibility to develop industrial cooperation in the framework agreement for Special Economic Zone "Titanium Valley" that will be located in Verkhnaya Salda (Russia).

Airbus and VSMPO-AVISMA also confirmed their joint activities in Vertical Integration Project where the activities of VSMPO-AVISMA for Airbus will not be limited to supplies of raw and forgings: it is planned to expand them to rough machining or early-stage machining of titanium components.

Building vertical production structure is a key element of our strategy, said Mikhail Voevodin, CEO of VSMPO-AVISMA. This is by all means an important advantage and a lever to control costs, time of production and quality in the entire production cycle. Cornerstone of VSMPO-AVISMA's marketing policy is "always be around your customer", and to achieve this, we make use of all the possible resources. We are confident that our cooperation with EADS/Airbus will allow us keep VSMPO-AVISMA's and Airbus' leadership on a growing market.

“Within 10 years, VSMPO-AVISMA has become one of major industrial partners of Airbus and today covers 60% of our titanium needs,” explains Christopher Buckley, Airbus’ Executive Vice President, Europe, Asia and the Pacific. “Over the last years, we have worked very hard at Airbus to rationalise and integrate our supply chain to improve efficiency and lead time. We are extremely happy to reinforce our cooperation with our long-term partner VSMPO-AVISMA in the area of vertical integration as it is at the heart of our industrial strategy.”

Since the 1990s, VSMPO-AVISMA has become a major supplier for Airbus and its parent company EADS and today covers 60% of the group’s titanium needs in semi-finished products or titanium forgings. Based on the strategic and increasing importance of titanium use in every new aircraft programme and in the aeronautic industry as a whole, in April 2009, EADS/Airbus and VSMPO-AVISMA signed the biggest and longest-term frame contract for the supply of titanium for Airbus and other EADS divisions until 2020. In the scope of this 2009 agreement, Airbus manages the distribution to the whole EADS supply chain.
