Irkut contracts Meggitt for MC21 braking system

Release Date: 2010-07-26

Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems (MABS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Irkut Corporation to develop the entire braking system for all variants of its new commercial aircraft programme, the MC21.
Meggitt’s braking system, which includes state-of-the-art carbon brakes fitted with 7000 series NuCarb™ carbon, is installed within a highly optimised main wheel. The main wheel and brake are designed to deliver extremely long life between scheduled removals, combined with highly efficient cooling to ensure rapid aircraft turnaround at the gate.

The digital brake-by-wire brake control system will perform on all MC21 aircraft variants.

Ken Schwartz, President of Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems, said: “This is an exceptional opportunity to expand our presence in the Russian market and adds to MABS’ portfolio of commercial aircraft programmes.”
