Release Date: 2009-09-23

The Fourth International Business Aviation Exhibition JET EXPO 2009, Russia´s luxury and business jet salon, may not have been as big as its three predecessors but certainly showed as much dynamism and ambition in the face of today´s challenging economic conditions. Its general director, Alexander Evdokimov, called it a ´winners´ exhibition in his opening speech, on the first day of the September 16-18 event, held at the Crocus Expo Exhibition center, on the apron of Vnukovo-3 airport, the newest Moscow business aviation terminal.

Russia’s business aviation has boomed in the last decade, with growth rates of 100% per year, and, unlike other markets, it´s still doing well. Although numbers were down from previous editions, those who matter in the industry did not miss the opportunity to get down to business in Moscow and showcase, review, compare, buy and sell the latest and most popular models of administrative and business jets and helicopters. Major heavy weights of the business aviation market, including Bombardier, Bell Helicopters, and Cessna, were present at the event, alongside their Russian counterparts, such as Rusaero, Moscow Sky, Delta Aerotaxi and Aerotrans. As Evdokimov, who is also president of Jet Group pointed out, “This year’s exhibition has gathered everyone who has not been frightened by the crisis”.

One of the brave ones was Wendy Courtenay, business development director of International Air Charter. She was interviewed on site by a team from Focus Communication, which was also official media partner of the event. Courtenay agreed with Evdokimov that the current situation of the Russian aviation market is “definitely becoming more positive and vivid compared to how it was earlier this year, in spring”. She added that she had met many people at Jet Expo and made some very good contacts, which may turn into profitable deals later on.

Despite all the media doom and gloom, this edition of Jet Expo also saw a glamorous parade of business jets; Dassault Aviation was first to boast its newest creations: the Falcon 7X and Falcon 2000LX, the latter being the youngest of the Falcon family. This model has just been certified by FAA, following EASA certification on April 23, 2009, and according to John Rosanvallon, President and CEO of Dassault Falcon, “the Falcon 2000LX guarantees the lowest transaction costs in this class of jets and is the perfect choice in the current economic situation”. Surely, a selling point in the present environment.
