State Corporation for Organization of Air Transport to implement RVSM in 2011

Moscow, AviaPort - State Corporation for Organization of Air Transport in the Russian Federation (State Corporation for OrVD) is planning to implement the system of Reduced Vertical Separation Minima (RVSM) from November 2011, an AviaPort correspondent reports from the meeting of the target group for RVSM implementation.
The new RVSM system envisages reduced intervals of vertical separation from 500 to 300 m on heights above 8,900 m. According to Valery Okulov, deputy Minister of Transport of Russia, it will allow airlines save fuel and ecology and improve the capacity of the air territory of Russia.

Alexander Vedernikov, deputy Head of Rosaeronavigation, added that air transport organization systems are currently being modernized to implement RVSM; staff is trained according to certified international aviation programs for working under RVSM conditions. He noted that only 460 out of 770 aircraft registered in the Russian state register are capable of flying in RVSM conditions.
