Ameco Beijing urges Russia to unify its aerospace industry for increased Sino-Russian aviation business
Release Date: 2009-08-19
Moscow, August 19 2009 -- Zhu Xiao, the executive director of the leading Chinese MRO provider Ameco Beijing, believes there is tremendous potential for cooperation between the Chinese aviation firm and Russia’s air transport industry, if Russia succeeds in bringing together all the relevant parts of its aerospace scene, he said at the MAKS Airshow, in Moscow.
Major Russian airlines, such as AirBridge Cargo, S7 Airlines, SkyExpress and Transaero, already use Ameco’s Beijing’s large and well-established maintenance facility in China. Zhu wants to build reciprocal relationships so that the aircraft of each company can be technically supported in both countries.
Russia and China’s aviation sectors enjoy a 50-year relationship. Customers in both countries share “low-cost sensibilities.” Yet this potential seems compromised at times by Russian government policy, as “Issues of certification, taxes, and spares supply need to be addressed,” Zhu explained. He pointed out that talks of joint ventures between Ameco Beijing and Russian partners, which began years ago, have yet to be finalized, but he also expressed hope that Russia will do what it takes to “show us the big potato”.
