Release Date: 2009-08-12

Moscow, August 10: During a press-conference with the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia that anticipates MAKS-2009 (August 18-23, 2009), Victor Khristenko, Minister of Industry and Trade, emphasized the importance of the show for demonstration of the positive development of the Russian aviation and its confidence in overcoming the crisis. The industry, as he said, “should use the opportunities that the crisis offers instead of just complaining that it is there”.
The show will face the renewed face of the industry and the high level of involvement: 711 companies from 34 countries representing the whole value chain of the industry.

As Khristenko noted, “In spite of the current difficulties there will be no deviations from the strategic target of creating competitive Russian aircraft construction, meaning that on the world market of long-range heavy passenger aircraft Russia should have 5% by 2015 and 10% by 2025, so our targets are attainable. To some extent, I believe we have all grounds to see 2009 as a positive year for the industry that will bring growth in terms of aircraft and helicopter production and in terms of the produced engines. We have accumulated this positive trend over the last 3 years and we’re committed to maintain it”.

The Minister also noted the importance of MAKS as a factor of international cooperation that is “one of the prerequisites for development of Russian aircraft construction”. “It’s an illusion that you can rely on your own resources and find inspiration and sources to leverage risks and develop. International cooperation means not only expanded markets but also divided risks, search of partners to join forces. In this respect, Russia is going firmly - from simple supply deals to complex risk-sharing agreements with Russia’s partners in Russian projects and Russia’s participation or planned participation in the projects of its partners”.

Russia’s foreign cooperation program includes Sukhoi SuperJet 100, a project involving Snecma (France), Finmeccanica (Italy), Boeing (USA); projects with the European colleagues - conversion of A320 in a cargo aircraft and the new mid-range MS-21 project that Russia will develop with its Western partners.

I’m sure that the traditional demonstration flights at MAKS and, preferably, good weather will bring even more optimism for the sake of clear pursuit of the strategic tasks and expansion and deepening of our cooperation with the current partners”, concluded the Minister.
