MVMS-209, the International Navy Salon, is taking place on June 24-28, 2009 in Saint-Petersburg, for the fourth time. About 300 enterprises, over 50 foreign companies among them, are showcasing their products here. Rosoboronexport is a traditional participant and sponsor of the exhibition. The Saint-Petersburg show is one of the three key world navy salons both in terms of the number of participants and the amount of arms and military equipment.

Modern Russian military equipment will be displayed at the Sea Train Station. Four foreign ships are expected to arrive; crews of the English frigate St.Albans, Spanish anti-torpedo ship Turia and French trawler Sagittaire and Pegase will greet the exhibition. In total, organizers and participants of the salon plan to allocate over 15 ships and boats. Shows and demonstration shooting of modern artillery will be done at the Rzhevka polygon of the Ministry of Defense. Traditionally, piloting groups ‘Strizhi’ and ‘Russian Knights’ will show their skills in the skies of the Gulf of Finland.

The objective of this mass-scale event is to showcase the modern military navy arms and equipment and the export potential of Russian defense and industrial complex, enhance the business cooperation with the permanent foreign partners of Russia, and establish new contacts with the potential clients. The Salon also supports further development of industrial cooperation with foreign companies and international scientific and technological cooperation aimed at creation of military equipment.

Russia is the globally recognized leader in military shipbuilding, with about 160 enterprises specialized in shipbuilding, device engineering and electronics, employing about 200,000 people.

Russian shipbuilding designs and creates fighter ships and auxiliary ships of all categories and produces all types of military navy arms and equipment. Russia is a world leader in exports of military navy arms and equipment.

Rosoboronexport showcases a wide array of military navy export products: the newest Russian submarines, large fighter ships and naval armaments and systems such as the monitoring complex of the on-shore zone, magnet acoustic station equipped with a unique electromagnetic channel for protection of especially important on-shore sites. An important component of export is supply of training equipment: models of ships, aircraft and armament.

Rosoboronexport also offers a wide range of services: after-sales servicing, creation of joint service centres, overhaul and upgrade of the previously supplied Russian military equipment.

New kinds of services are joint R&D works for creation of modern ships and naval armaments tailored for foreign clients; technical support in development of new technologies in designing and constructing ships and developing naval armaments and licensed production of Russian naval armaments abroad. Rosoboronexport strictly follows all the existing international standards and restrictions in distribution of arms and military equipment in its foreign commercial activities.

“Saint-Petersburg, Russia’s sea capital, is the best place for the Salon, with 80% of the scientific and engineering institutes and over 30% of shipbuilding facilities”, notes Oleg Azizov, head of the Navy Department of Rosoboronexport. - “The format and conditions of the exhibitions are an opportunity to not only see the newest samples of naval equipment and the advanced developments in shipbuilding but also see ships and boats, naval armaments and aviation in action, hold business meetings, visit enterprises, participate in negotiations, receptions and intensive scientific and business agenda. We regard our participation as an important stage in enhancing Russia’s position on the world market of naval equipment and expanding mutually beneficial military and technical cooperation with the foreign partners”.
