Roscosmos Head Anatoly Perminov: About PARIS AIRSHOW 2009, Roscosmos (Federal Aerospace Agency) - Роскосмос
Release Date: 2009-06-15
"Roscosmos traditionally considers Salon in Le Bourget to be an outstanding demonstration arena for the greatest space hardware and technological achievements. 11 leading Russian rocket and space industrial companies take part in the Salon this year. The exhibition presents results and prospective projects in all branches of the space industry. Among the Russian exhibits, I would like to draw your attention to the following ones: • Luna-Glob automatic Moon exploration interplanetary station, which is to be launched in 2012. This spacecraft has been developed by Lavochkin R&D company. Luna-Glob mission consists of several stages: Moon orbiting, selection and preparation of the lunar rover landing sites, studies of the lunar core by penetrators, etc.; • Phobos-Grunt spacecraft, which is planned for launch to the Martian satellite Phobos in October 2009. The project implies delivery of the Phobos` soil samples to the Earth; • We also present Glonass-M spacecraft designed and developed by Reshetnev Informational Satellite Systems company. These satellites are intended for Russian global navigation system GLONASS. Glonass-M is featured by extended lifetime and high positioning accuracy; • In addition, united Roscosmos exposition presents several families of launchers. Among them, first of all, I would like to mention Angara LVs. This is a new generation of launchers, from heavy to light class, developed on the basis of the universal rocket module with oxygen-and-kerosene engines of the RD-191 type. Khrunichev State Space Center makes an attempt to smooth environmental pollution problem with the help of this launcher. Furthermore, usage of the high-performance and ecologically-pure propellant components provide the opportunity to achieve enhanced economical effectiveness, which is very important for the modern Russian industry; • Exhibition stand of the Progress Central Design Bureau presents another Russian product, Soyuz-2-3 launcher. This is a three-stage middle-class modification of the Soyuz-2 rocket. Compare to Soyuz-2, Soyuz-2-3 is equipped with a new central stage. Soyuz-2-3 lifting capacity is about 38% higher than the one of Soyuz-2, due to application of the NK-33-1 engine in the central stage. NK-33-1 has higher thrust and specific thrust momentum; • There is one more exhibit - mock-up of the Soyuz-ST launch complex at the Space Center in French Guiana. The project is developed jointly by Russia with the French partners. This facility is to support any type of the Soyuz-ST prelaunch and launch activity for various payloads to be lofted into different orbits. It is planned to make no less than 50 Soyuz-ST launches within 15 years. In addition, Soyuz-ST operations provide the opportunity to enhance and consolidate Russian-European space cooperation, and promote accomplishment of European and world space programs. Of course, these are not all the exhibits of the Roscosmos united stand, and I would like to invite you to visit our exposition, so you could have your own idea about Russian space activities. The Salon is also a traditional place for negotiations between the managers of the leading space agencies, industrial and commercial companies. This year Roscosmos is going to sign two interagency cooperation agreements in the area of space science: one with ESA- on cooperation in the framework of the BepiColombo project (mission to Mercury), and the other one - with CNES - on cooperation in the framework of the Phobos-Grunt project. Besides, Roscosmos plans to sign Remote Sensing Cooperation Intention Protocol with Italian Space Agency. Involvement in the BepiKolombo (to be launched from CSG by Soyuz-ST in 2013) will essentially enhance the opportunities of the mission and provide the opportunity to get unique results of the Mercury atmospheric studies. Concerning Phobos-Grunt, French scientific payload installed on board the spacecraft will provide an addition to the operations of the Russian payloads to be used for Martian and Phobos` research. The launch is planned in late October this year. We plan to develop our cooperation with ASI in many branches: engine production (positive results have been achieved here), space communication for cross-polar routes. Definition of the future cooperation plan in remote sensing area is the main issue for the both parties now. The Memorandum to be signed during the Salon is devoted to resolving these issues. Some industrial companies also plan to sign cooperation agreements with foreign partners. Here I would like to draw your attention to the agreement signed by Reshetnev Informational Satellite Systems company, Russia, and Thales Alenia Space. Reshetnev ISS` and TAS` strategic partnership agreement on the joint-platform-based satellites production implies deliveries of the satellite devices and units manufactured for Russian and foreign customers, as well as organization of mutual training for the specialists of the companies".
