Moscow, Nov 2008

Russian leading aviation engine developer JSC Klimov has announced that it is at present negotiating an engine servicing system with various Chinese companies for Klimov engines operated in China, the company’s General Director, Alexander Vatagin told RussianAvia.net in Moscow.

“PRC and JSC Klimov are long-term partners. We hope that after our integration in the UECC our cooperation with China will reach a new level and become more efficient, intensive and prospective. We are negotiating engine servicing with some Chinese enterprises for engines developed by JSC Klimov and operated in China. “CATIC” remains our key partner in China,” Vatagin said. Vatagin did not elaborate on the names of potential partners.

Keeping an eye on the product for safety’s sake…

Servicing centers help to increase considerably the reliability of the equipment and to prevent possible emergencies and accidents. “Aviation equipment produced by JSC Klimov is in mass usage in China, that is why cooperation of the developer with Chinese companies helps to prevent errors in operation and repair, as well as usage of counterfeit components,” the company wrote in a statement sent to RussianAvia.net. “PRC possesses a developed infrastructure, highly qualified personnel, hi-tech facilities and a huge technical potential. This is the basis for prevention of using low quality spare parts,” the press release continued.

Moreover, it is the view of JSC Klimov that cooperation between developer, mass producer, and operator and repair enterprises is a must in order to guarantee the best possible product to the client, as it prevents the usage of low quality components from dubious manufacturers. “The issue of infringement production in aviation is extremely important because human lives depend on the quality of the components”, said the aforementioned statement. “Hundreds of people can fall victims to those who are using cheap and illegal components. Infringement production is strictly prohibited but is very attractive financially. However, there is no economic benefit from using cheap illegal components that could compensate for economic losses from crashed planes and helicopters, and ultimately for the loss of human life,” it continued.

The developer is obliged to make regular checks of the repair facilities, disclose violations and provide due level of repair servicing. In the Russian Federation, in case of disclosing gross violations, inspection acts are transferred to control authorities who can revoke the licenses of dishonest enterprises. “This is an efficient control measure,” JSC Klimov retorted.

China, a priority.

Cooperation of JSC Klimov with Chinese companies has been solidly in place for over 50 years, and it continues to be a priority. Since the early 70s, helicopters equipped with TVZ-117 engines and their modifications have been and remain very widely-used in China. In 1993, JSC Klimov began to develop the RD-93 engine for the Super-7 jet fighter. The project was implemented successfully and cooperation with “CATIC” continues.

Closer cooperation of JSC Klimov and Chinese companies in operation, repair and production of aviation equipment opens vast economic and technical prospects for the People’s Republic of China as it can offer different forms of interaction in order to enhance flight safety.

Engines by JSC Klimov are officially supplied for helicopters of Russia’s Ministry of Defense, Federal Security Service and President of the Russian Federation. Over the last 10 years, JSC Klimov has developed more engines than any of its competitors in Russia.
