Aviastar-SP, the largest Russian manufacturer of aviation equipment, celebrates its 35th anniversary on June 10
History of Aviastar-SP dates back to 1975 when the decision was taken to construct a giant aviation facility on the left shore of Volga in Ulyanovsk. Cornerstone of the future facility was laid on June 10, 1976.
In the 21 century, Aviastar-SP is one of the most advanced aircraft construction companies with high quality equipment and wide range of operations: from forging and mechanical processing up to final assembly, testing and painting of the end products.
Currently, Aviastar-SP is specialized in production of passenger and cargo aircraft of Tu-204 family for the leading Russian and international airlines such as Cubana de aviacion, Air Koryo and Cairo Aviation, servicing of unique heavy transport aircraft An-124 Ruslan, and production of components for PS-90А and D18Т engines.
Aviastar-SP is also working at the new 476 project.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is preparing a customization center for the prospective mid-range narrow-body MS-21 aircraft based at Aviastar-SP. Aviastar-SP will take on production and setup of cabin interior, painting of the aircraft and its delivery to the customers.
It is also planned that Aviastar-SP will participate in the Russian-Indian project for the new MTA project.
Airbus, on behalf of EADS, and Irkut, on behalf of UAC, have created a joint venture to convert the passenger aircraft А320 in the transport aircraft А321P2F that will be located at two sites - in Dresden and Ulyanovsk. In the frame of this project, Aviastar-SP will undertake technical overhaul of its facilities and gain new competences in civil aviation.
