Oboronprom and IAI to set up UAV assembly in Russia, UIC Oboronprom- ОПК «Оборонпром»

In the presence of Viktor Khristenko, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Itzhak Nissan, CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and Andrey Reus, Director General of Oboronprom, signed an agreement to sell unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assembly elements and services to Oboronprom.The deal will begin to be implemented during 2011.
The agreement was signed in the framework of the official visit of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia represented by Viktor Khristenko, invited by Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, Minister of Industry and Trade of Israel.
UAV assembly is to be based in Tatarstan. Earlier, Oboronprom and the Republic of Tatarstan had signed a memorandum of understanding that envisages full official support in this hi-tech project where IAI acts as the supplier of equipment and technologies.
Andrej Reus, Director General of Oboronprom, noted that, according to the experts, "The total volume of investments in development and production of UAV in the coming years is to reach 55 bln USD. Our main objective is to develop a specialized UAV production cluster of a global scale. Partnering with IAI, one of the globally recognized leaders in this area, Russia will be able to make a quick and solid step on this market and gain access to the technologies and modern solutions for production and service organization. We're also launching replacement of the borrowed constructions with the Russian spare parts".
Mr. Nissan added that "We hope to expand our joint relationship to include additional areas such as the commercial market and green energy sector".
