Moscow, May 22, 2010: HeliRussia 2010, Russia’s premier helicopter exhibition held in Moscow on May 20-22, 2010, proved, for the 3rd consecutive year, to be the premier showcase for Russian helicopters. Leading industry associations, such as national flagship company Russian Helicopters, new engine manufacture alliance ODK, and arms & military equipment trade ministry Rosoboronexport, were all present, alongside their international partners industry such as AgustaWestland and Eurocopter. Participant companies, from Russia and abroad, spanned the entire value chain, from engine manufacturers, R&D, after-sale service and engineering companies.
The event was an ideal opportunity to announce the Russian helicopter industry’s impressive results over the past year. As Sergey Kornev, Head of the Air Forces department of Rosoboronexport commented, “The Russian helicopter exports account for 10% of Russia’s total military export, with 50% of this volume in the sales of transport and combat helicopters. 2010 is a year of hope for the Russian military industry that plans to increase exports 30% worth 500-600 million USD”. Talking about the major arms export markets for Rosoboronexport, Mr Kornev pointed out India (with three ongoing projects) and Venezuela, Russia’s main helicopter receiver over 2009. According to Rosoboronexport, 380 helicopters in total were sold over 2009.

Russian military exports have a wide international following. While Rosoboronexport has established solid cooperation with India and Venezuela, potential contracts are also possible with such strategic regions as India, North Africa, and some countries of the Middle East. However no official announcements have yet been made.

HeliRussia 2010 demonstrates how Russia’s defense industry is gearing up for new joint ventures and developments, particularly with regard to the opening of new export markets and to improving the quality of Russian civil and military aviation products.
