Release Date: 2010-04-14

The headquarters of Rosoboronexport hosted a regular meeting of its Scientific and Technical Council on economic and information security on April 15, 2010. The focus of the meeting was on fighting unfair competition in the modern conditions. Representatives of the federal executive authorities, Russian Technologies, heads of the defense enterprises, banks and educational institutions took part in the meeting.
Alexander Brindikov, Head of the Council of advisors to the General Director of Rosoboronexport and Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council, noted that "unfair competition is increasingly gaining ground under the economic crisis in the sphere of military and technical cooperation. This is explained by growing competition on the global arms markets and certain decrease of the financial potential of several countries to buy arms and military equipment".

Valery Varlamov, Head of the Security Department of Rosoboronexport, noted in the main report that the volume of Russian exports of arms and military equipment in 2009 was over 8.5 bln USD which is considerably higher than last year. This positive trend has been there for 10 years.

"Unfair competition used by the foreign manufacturers of arms and military equipment concerns both Rosoboronexport and the entire Russian defense industry. Solution of this issue is crucial for the economic safety of Rosoboronexport and the entire military and technical cooperation", stressed Varlamov. This is why Rosoboronexport attributes especial importance to developing measures against unfair competition.

Participants of the meeting have reviewed different aspects of fighting unfair competition in the sphere of Russia's military and technical cooperation with other countries.
