Fifth generation fighter jet delivered to Zhukovsky to continue on-ground testing and and test flights, Sukhoi Holding - ОАО "Компания "Сухой"

Release Date: 2010-04-08

The first flying sample of PAK FA, fifth generation aviation complex, was delivered to Zhukovsky (Moscow region) from Komsomolsk-on-Amur with An-124 Ruslan, a military transport aircraft of the Russian Air Forces. After the jet is assembled, Sukhoi will continue the test flights in late April-early May 2010

The first flight of PAK FA took place on January 29, 2010 on the aerodrome of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Enterprise (KnAAPO). The flight lasted 47 minutes.

The first testing stage comprising 6 flights included appraisal of the engine and the main systems, appraisal of the stability and maneouvrability of the aircraft, and has expanded the range of speeds and testing altitudes.

PAK FA, as compared to the previous generation fighters, boasts a few unique features such as the function of an attack aircraft and a fighter jet in one. The 5th generation aircraft is equipped with brand new avionics with an integrated 'electronic pilot' function and a prospective radio location station. It makes it easier for the pilot to concentrate on the tactical tasks. On-board equipment enables real time data exchange with both the on-ground control systems and other aircraft. Composite metarials and innovative technologies, aerodynamic structure and concealment of the engine allow unprecedentally low radiolocational, optical and infrared visibility.

PAK FA program will take the Russian aviation construction and the related industries to a new technological level. These aircraft, as well as the modernized aviation complexes of the fourth generation, will determine the potential of the Russian Air Forces during the coming decades.
