Nikolay Zaneghin, MAKS 2011 - МАКС 2011
Release Date: 2011-08-01
Nikolay Zaneghin, deputy director of Aviasalon and organizer of MAKS airshows for the last 20 years, is confident that the anniversary 10th MAKS-2011 will beat all other ones in terms of the exhibitors and will be one of the most spectacular events in terms of its flight program, confirming the status of a leading world airshow. The tenth MAKS airshow is taking place at a difficult moment for the Russian aerospace industry. But, in spite of a challenging period, the interest of the Russian exhibitors remains quite high. How would you characterize the special features of MAKS-2011?
I can say that the new feature is emergence of joint stands with detailed information on the activities and projects driven by the Russian companies. For instance, Russian Helicopters, United Engine Corporation, Aircraft Engineering Concern, VEGA, Almaz-Antey Tactical Missiles Corporation are presenting their new stands as large holdings. Thanks to this approach, our potential partners and customers have a more clear and transparent idea of the structure of the Russian industry and its product range. Concerning the foreign participants, I am pleased to witness the interest of the leading foreign companies: Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Safran and other companies.
MAKS traditionally focuses more on presenting the foreign companies. Will this change in 2011?
It is good to note that this year we have reached a certain breakthrough related to the Asian participants. Given strained political relations with Japan, presence of Japanese Aerospace Association at MAKS-2011 is a symbolic fact meaning that we are building bridges to cooperate with Japan in high technologies exchange. But you are right to say that mostly our long-term European partners will be present at MAKS, such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain – they are the traditional participants of MAKS airshows.
Each of the four developing countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China – has big aviation ambitions. Are their achievements to be seen at MAKS-2011?
I should say that we have quite interesting relations with China. On the one hand, China Great Wall Industry Corporation represents the entire Chinese aerospace as an active participant of MAKS. On the other hand, Russia’s relations with Chinese aerospace are not that easy. As a matter of fact, our neighbors don’t see Russia as a real market yet.
Participation of Hindustan Aeronautic Limited, the leading Indian manufacturer, is also a good tradition. Of course, Brahmos, our other long-term Indian partner, is also high on MAKS agenda. Embraer will not be that big on MAKS – they specialize in development of short-range and regional jets, the direct competitors of Sukhoi Superjet, and they realize that they don’t have a big market in Russia’s face. In any case, participation in MAKS is important for the leading global players because the Russian market has a great potential and can “swallow” a lot of jets.
Talking about the aircraft, MAKS uncontestable visit card since its inception is its flight program…
Indeed, it is a great achievement for any world airshow to have at least one world class piloting group. Today, MAKS is expecting 5 piloting groups!
The highlights of the upcoming airshow are the leading Russian piloting groups: Strizhi (“The Swifts” in Russian), The Russian Knights, Sokoli Rossii (“Russia’s Falcons” in Russian), “Russ” piloting group has a new program to show. Our guests from Latvia are The Baltic Bees. Besides, our aerospace industry is preparing an exciting program with the newest jet fighters Su-35, Su-30МК2 and Т-50, as well as civil jets and helicopters. MAKS-2011 is also looking forward to see the French Air Forces – the Rafale jet fighter. S-27, the Italian transport jet, will be doing aerial acrobatics in the sky of Zhukovsky. The U.S. Air Forces will be represented by F-15 jet fighter.
